If you're anything like me, then what is happening in the Gulf Coast is making you sick. The oil is spilling out of the seafloor at 5,000 barrels a day -- the equivalent of 210,000 gallons, affecting over 125 species of fish and shellfish and over 30 species of birds. Tragic!
But, thankfully, some companies are trying to do their part by donating a potion of their proceeds of their respective goodies towards different organizations that help the situation in the Gulf.
Here are some of my faves.
First, Mignon Faget.
Mignon Faget is a jewelry designer from New Orleans who has taken time out of designing decadent jewelry to make some "in mourning" pieces for the Gulf tragedy.
How cute is this?! It's $80 and the proceeds go towards the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.
Some other stuff of hers I liked that go towards the Coalition:
Oyster Pendent with Black Pearl, $90
Redfish Pin, $85
Pelican Pendent, $65
Next, Etsy is getting in on the act and a lot of the crafty people selling their wares that use the site are donating the sales to cleaning up the Gulf.
HelptheGulfCoast 's site has some really cool stuff that 100% of the profit goes toward the Gulf Coast Relief. How cool! Some of the neat things Help the Gulf Coast is selling:
Magnolia Falls picture, $25
Heart My Book picture, $30
Sterling and White Pearls Bird Nest Necklace, $35
Bleu Clair Parisian Nostalgia Blue Glass Necklace, $26
Tea cup and Saucer set $42
Organic Mineral Eyeshadow/Eyeliner - $14.95
Mr. Crawfish picture - $10 (this picture makes me laugh for some odd reason)
Sea of Love picture - $35
Custom Scrapbooking Pack - $14.95
Fairy Flower Lucite Earrings - $14
Water's Edge Natural Wild Honeysuckle Wreath - $49.95
....and the list goes on, boasting 443 items for sale and every penny going towards the Gulf Coast.
Kenneth Cole is opening up an online t-shirt via Facebook to go towards the spill:
Just Facebook "Kenneth Cole Productions" to find out more/buy the merchandise!
You could also show your support through the purchase of these buttons.
They are $2.50 each, and $1 of each sale goes toward the National Wildlife Association.
Of course, you could do it the more direct route and just go online and donate to any of these great organizations yourself, like the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the National Wildlife Federation, etc. Make yourself aware of the situation, and keep up with the particulars. After all, this is the Earth that the generation before us is putting in our hands. We can either help or hinder.
*Quote of the Day: The ocean is made up of tiny drops of water. Even so, life is but an endless series of little details, actions, speeches, and thoughts. And the consequences whether good or bad of even the least of them are far-reaching.* - Sivananda
